Biography

Jack focuses his practice in three main areas: complex litigation, municipal law, and representing family-owned and small businesses. He also possesses considerable experience in strategic business planning and consulting, as well as dispute resolution, holding certification as a mediator from Northern Kentucky University.

In his current role, Jack serves as the City Attorney for Erlanger, Dry Ridge, Independence, and Taylor Mill. He previously worked in the Grant County Attorney’s Office from 2003 to 2009, where he represented the Grant County Fiscal Court and was appointed Grant County Attorney in 2008. Jack has a strong record of representing municipalities across Kentucky and Ohio, particularly in planning, zoning, and litigation matters.

As a complex litigator and trial attorney, Jack has tried numerous jury cases in Ohio and Kentucky, advocating for businesses, banks, and individuals. He has taken the lead in a variety of cases, addressing issues such as multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes, contract disputes, construction litigation, shareholder and partner disagreements, breaches of fiduciary duty, fraud, residential, HUD, and commercial lease litigation, real estate and title disputes, major felony criminal defense, estate litigation including will contests, fire and theft losses, and environmental and toxic torts. Additionally, Jack has extensive experience in alternative dispute resolution, representing parties through the American Arbitration Association.

In his capacity as a small business attorney, Jack serves as general counsel to numerous small and mid-sized corporations. His expertise includes advising owners, executives, and officers on a wide range of business matters, including corporate formation, mergers and acquisitions, dissolution, succession planning, contract formation, compliance with government regulations, employment decisions, and property ownership and management.

Jack's work has garnered him various accolades, including recognition as a Rising Star in Ohio and Kentucky and as a Super Lawyer in Kentucky. He has received the highest AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and a 10.0 rating from AVVO. A former Managing Partner of a regional law firm, Jack has also served as President of the Northern Kentucky Bar Association. Committed to community service, he has held board positions with the Grant County Tourism Commission, Dry Ridge Soup Kitchen, and Grant County Chamber Vision 2020. Furthermore, he has acted as Chairperson of the Grant County Joint Industrial Development Authority and Chairperson of the Cincinnati Real Estate Cooperative.

Jack is married to his law partner, April Gatlin. Together, they are raising four active children, one of whom is attending Thomas More University, another at the University of Kentucky, and the remaining two are deeply engaged in the arts. Jack and April first met at the University of Kentucky and share a mutual interest in attending sporting events, exploring nature, and spending quality time with their children.
