Hiking and biking trails

For visitors who want to explore the park, there are over 15 miles of trails, which range from easy to moderate in difficulty. If you are looking for a shorter hike, you can access trails directly from the park’s main drive, but for a more challenging trek, try the trails at the park’s western edge. Much more here.

The park offers two outdoor courts, which are free to use and open year-round. For those who want to take lessons, try out a nearby club or join a league. 


There are two playgrounds in the park, both of which offer plenty of fun for children of all ages. The outdoor playground, which is open during the spring and summer, also features a small stream, which is perfect for little ones who love water.

Hiking Trails

Gateway Trail 

The Gateway Trail is a 3.5-mile trail which winds through Devou Park from the edge of the Ohio River to the park’s center. This easy trail is perfect for hikers of all skill levels. 

Old Trail 

The Old Trail meanders through the heart of the park, winding past a variety of beautiful landscapes. This moderate trail is roughly 3.8 miles long, but you can shorten it by taking the trail’s multiple exits.

The Ridge Trail is a moderate trail that spans 5.3 miles. Starting at the trailhead behind the Nature Center, this trail has views that overlook Northern Kentucky.

Biking Trails

The park offers two biking trails, each of which is roughly 3 miles long. The trails are open to both hikers and bikers, so visitors should use caution when near each other. 

Gateway Trail

As with the hiking trail of the same name, the Gateway Trail is a 3-mile trail that begins at the edge of the Ohio River. 

Old Trail

The Old Trail spans 3 miles and is the shorter of the two biking trails.

Picnic Areas

The park has five picnic areas, each complete with tables, grills, and nearby restrooms. Three of the areas are open year-round, while the other areas are only available during the warmer months. 

Denny Switzer Athletic Field

This open field is perfect for a large group or family get-together. There is a playground nearby, which is perfect for little ones. 

Rotary Grove

A smaller and more intimate area, Rotary Grove is perfect for a quiet afternoon with a loved one. 


This picnic area is right on the Ohio River, so bring your binoculars and you might see a few waterfowl! 

Stone Gardens

This picturesque area is surrounded by beautiful, flowering plants, making it a great area for photos.
